Start with what "all" means, because it changes the job. Somebody with forty saved friends and a new family chat needs a thumb and a minute. Somebody holding a spreadsheet of customer numbers has a different problem under the same name, and the pages that explain how to add all contacts to telegram group chats mostly answer only the first.
Is there a select-all when you add contacts to a Telegram group?
No.
We have not found one in Telegram for Android, iOS or Desktop as of October 2026. Open the group, tap its name, choose Add Members, and the app shows your contacts with a search field above them. Each person takes one tap. Here is how to add multiple contacts to telegram group chats by hand: tick several names, confirm once, and they arrive together.
The same picker opens when you create a group, where the contact list is the first screen. So the built-in way to add all contacts to telegram group chats is to scroll and tick until nothing is left unticked. A few dozen names are fine. A few hundred are the reason anyone goes looking for something else. Size is not the obstacle, since Telegram's FAQ allows a group up to 200,000 members and says of adding them, "You can add your contacts, or using search by username."
Two facts about "your contacts" first. A contact list belongs to one account, so the names on a work login are not on a personal one, whatever the answer to how many logins one phone app can switch between. And a contact is not always a phone number: how a single contact gets saved in the first place can be a username, a QR code or a shared profile. To get the list in a file before you start, use the Desktop export that also writes out your contact list.
A channel takes 200 direct adds, then only a link
This is the part most guides garble.
Channels have the picker too, under Add Subscribers, and it behaves the same way until the count reaches 200. Telegram's channel FAQ says the owner "may invite the first 200 subscribers" and that afterwards "the channel is on its own". The Android app is blunter when somebody tries for one more: "Sorry, you can only add the first 200 subscribers to a channel. Note that an unlimited number of people may join via the channel's link."
So anyone searching how to add all contacts to telegram channel pages gets a hard answer once the channel has passed that mark: you cannot, and neither can a program. The line counts subscribers, not attempts. Waiting changes nothing, and neither does a second admin. A telegram add all contacts to channel button is missing from the apps for that reason, and a seller who offers to add all contacts to telegram channel audiences of ten thousand by direct add is describing something else, usually a link sent in private messages.
Past 200, the link is the only way in
It works at any size. A public channel has a username, so whether your chat shows up when someone searches for it matters more than any add, and a private one hands out invite links. On that FAQ page Telegram also asks you not to send channel links to strangers, because "if they report spam from your account, you may be banned from contacting other people". Among people who really are your contacts, a message with the link is the ordinary way in, and sending one message to many contacts at once is mostly a matter of the forward sheet, and it is the honest reading of a wish to have telegram invite all contacts to channel pages automatically. The invitation is a message each person is free to ignore.
Those direct adds are spent against the channel, not against an account. If it was created on a login you do not plan to keep, consider giving the channel to a different owner before the run rather than after it.
Why does Telegram refuse some of your own contacts?
Because being in your address book says nothing about whether you are in theirs.
The usual follow-up to how to add all contacts in telegram group chats is why three of them would not go in. Every account has a setting at Settings > Privacy and Security > Groups & Channels that decides who may add it to chats. Android labels the choices Everybody and My Contacts, with a Never Allow list for exceptions. Read the second option from the other side. "My Contacts" means the people that person has saved. If you imported their number last night, they are your contact and you are a stranger to them, and the add fails.
A second refusal has the same asymmetry behind it. Someone who left the group once cannot simply be put back, and the app explains that "you need to be in their Telegram contacts to add them back". In the API this family goes by USER_NOT_MUTUAL_CONTACT, which the add method's error table glosses as "The provided user is not a mutual contact", listed beside USER_PRIVACY_RESTRICTED and USER_CHANNELS_TOO_MUCH.
| What the Android app says | Who it is about | Does waiting help? | The route that still works |
|---|---|---|---|
| "you can't add this user to groups because of their privacy settings" | Them: their setting leaves you out | No | An invite link they choose to open |
| "you need to be in their Telegram contacts to add them back" | Someone who left this chat before | No | They save you, or they use a link |
| "you can only add the first 200 subscribers to a channel" | The channel, whoever is asking | No | The channel's link |
| "you can only add mutual contacts to groups at the moment" | You: the adding account is limited | When the limit ends | People who saved you back |
The quoted lines come from Telegram's Android language pack, read in October 2026; the last column is ours.
Since March 2023 the apps soften the first of these. Telegram's release notes for that update put it this way: "If you're inviting someone who restricts this, you can now quickly send them an invite link as a message." The person then decides. Codes a contact-based run rarely meets are in a separate breakdown of add errors and both 200-member figures.
Can a bot add your contacts to a group or channel?
No, and it fails twice over.
The request arrives as a telegram contacts to group bot, as an add contacts to telegram group bot, or as a telegram add contacts to channel bot for the broadcast version, and all three assume a bot can do two things it cannot. It cannot see your contact list, because a bot is its own account with no address book of yours behind it. And it cannot place a person in a chat: the Bot API has no method that adds a user to anything, while the two MTProto methods that do, channels.inviteToChannel and messages.addChatUser, are both marked "Only users can use this method".
The Bot API does carry the invitation side: createChatInviteLink, exportChatInviteLink and the calls that approve or decline join requests. It is real work, and the invite-link work a bot is actually allowed to do is worth building on, but it is the opposite motion. A link waits for the person. An add does not.
Anything sold as a bot that adds contacts is therefore a signed-in user account with a script behind it.
What a telegram add contacts to group script actually calls
Three methods, in order, from an ordinary account.
First it signs in as you, which needs the credential pair my.telegram.org hands out per phone number. Then a list of numbers goes through contacts.importContacts, which Telegram documents as a call that "saves a full list on the server, adds already registered contacts to the contact list, returns added contacts and their info". Numbers with no Telegram account behind them return nothing. The rest come back as user objects, each carrying the numeric ID Telegram gives each matched account and the access hash the next call requires. That step has its own article, on turning a number list into saved contacts.
Last comes the add: messages.addChatUser for a small basic group, channels.inviteToChannel for a supergroup or a channel. Either one replies with a list of the users that could not be invited, along with the reason for each. A free telegram add contacts to group tool on GitHub and a paid desktop module make the same calls here — what differs is what they do with the answers. The adding account also needs the right to add, as a member of a group that lets members bring others in or as a channel admin.
Anyone asking how to add bulk contacts in telegram group chats with a script tends to expect the import to be the slow half. It is the fast one. The add is where Telegram pushes back, with a 420 error that its errors page spells as FLOOD_WAIT_X, "a wait of X seconds is required", and, for accounts that keep at it, a spam limit no pause clears. A list of usernames collected somewhere else is not a contacts job at all. It is adding members who were never your contacts, with the way a typed @username is matched to its holder standing in for the import.
Add Contacts to Group in the panel: a number list in, members out
The module runs that same sequence across a pool of accounts instead of one.
You load a phone list as a CSV or TXT file, choose which accounts do the work, pick the destination group or channel, and start the run. Each working account imports its share of the numbers as contacts and then invites every match. The accounts are the sessions already in the panel, whether they arrived as session files or as the tdata folder a portable or installed Desktop build signs in with, and each keeps its own proxy and its own pacing. A telegram bulk add contacts to group run is no more than the picker's job, done by several logins and written to a log.
The walkthrough below shows the module on screen, from the list import to the report.
Three things in the report deserve a close read. Numbers that are not on Telegram are listed apart from the rest. Contacts whose privacy setting blocks the add are marked separately too, and an invite-link mode messages those contacts the link instead of adding them. Every successful add is recorded against the account that made it.
Channels go through the same screen. To add contacts to telegram group in bulk and then repeat the run for a channel, you change the destination and nothing else, though the channel stops taking direct adds at 200 subscribers whichever account asks. Anyone working out how to add bulk contacts in telegram channel audiences past that point is choosing between the link mode and patience.
How many contacts can one account add in a day?
There is no published number.
Telegram documents the error an account receives when it goes too fast and says nothing about where the line sits. Every daily figure in circulation, fifty a day, two hundred per account, twenty minutes between batches, is somebody's observation passed along as policy. Only the structure can be stated. A flood wait arrives with its own length in seconds, so software that reads it never has to guess. Contacts who saved the adder back are not refused for privacy. And an account Telegram has limited is told so in plain words.
Those words are in the table above: "you can only add mutual contacts to groups at the moment". The spam FAQ names the cause, listing "adding people to unwanted groups and channels" beside unwanted messages as something people report. Reports are what move the line.
Where the module stops
It does not raise any of this — the 200-subscriber line, the privacy setting and the spam limit live on Telegram's servers and apply to every client. It backs off when a flood wait arrives and divides a list among the accounts you chose, which is everything pacing can do. It will not make an add that the other person's settings refuse, and we supply neither the accounts nor the proxies.
Before you add everyone you have a number for
A direct add skips the question an invite link asks.
The person finds themselves inside a chat they did not choose, with a notification and their name on the member list. Forty friends in a reunion chat will not mind. With a bought or scraped phone list it is the plainest case of what Telegram's Terms of Service mean by agreeing not to "send spam or scam users". Phone numbers are personal data too: importing a customer list and pulling those people into a group is direct marketing under GDPR, CAN-SPAM and their equivalents, and it needs a lawful basis that no software supplies.
So sort the list before the run, not after. Anyone who knows you and expects the group can be added. Those who might want it get a message with the link, and for numbers you would rather not keep in an address book there is writing to someone whose number you never stored. Whoever never agreed to hear from you should not be on the list.
Afterwards, working accounts that joined only to do the adding have no reason to stay, and pulling the working accounts out of the groups afterwards is one pass. Should a test run post where it should not have, bulk removal of what an account has posted covers it.
