Three different things get called telegram advertising. The first is the official platform at ads.telegram.org, where Telegram itself places a sponsored message and bills you per view. The second is buying a post directly from a channel admin, a private deal Telegram never sees. The third is outreach from your own accounts. Most guides mix the three, and the minimums, rules and risks of one end up attached to another.
This page is about the first one. We stick to what Telegram's own pages say, mark anything that comes only from third parties, and end with where the official platform stops being the right tool. Can I advertise on Telegram as a small business? Yes. Telegram's guide describes no advertiser approval beyond logging in, only a review of each ad.
What is Telegram Ads, and where do Telegram sponsored messages appear?
Telegram Ads is the self-serve telegram ads platform Telegram runs at ads.telegram.org. Its own pitch is short: anyone can post ads on Telegram using this platform. The getting-started guide describes a tool to create sponsored messages in public one-to-many channels with 1000+ subscribers. The placements have since widened. Telegram's API documentation for app developers lists four surfaces:
- In channels, below the last post, once the reader scrolls past it.
- In bots, as an action bar above the chat.
- In global search, between your own results and the general results.
- In a channel's fullscreen video player, as a small box over the video.
Stories are on the list too, according to the privacy policy. Two groups of people never see any of it. Premium subscribers do not see telegram sponsored messages, and a channel owner can switch them off for all readers once the channel reaches a boost level that Telegram sets on its servers and does not publish.
Sponsored messages never run inside group chats, so anyone hoping to advertise telegram group conversations through this platform will find no such placement. You can only promote a channel or a bot that people then reach.
What the ad itself can contain
A sponsored message is small. It has a title, a body of at most 160 characters including spaces, and a button with one link. In the self-serve flow, that link must point to a channel or a bot on Telegram, written as t.me/link or @link. Links to external websites are not allowed. If the text carries a link too, it must lead to the same destination as the button. Who are the telegram sponsors behind a given ad? When the advertiser supplies the details, a Sponsor info label shows them. The destination is usually a public channel, which needs a valid public username first, and the rules a public Telegram username has to meet apply before the ad can point anywhere.
How much does Telegram advertising cost?
Pricing is CPM, cost per mille: what you pay for one thousand views of the ad. You choose the CPM yourself, and the telegram ads cpm floor is 0.1 of Telegram's coin. The getting-started guide still calls that coin Toncoin; the platform's newer pages call it Gram. On top of the CPM you set a telegram ads budget for each ad, and the ad keeps showing until that budget is spent.
This answers what is CPM in telegram ads, but not how much telegram ads cost in practice. Telegram publishes no average price, no auction rules and no table of rates by topic, so every "average CPM" you read comes from an agency or an ad-analytics site watching the market. Treat their figures as one seller's observation, since none come from Telegram and they move with the coin's exchange rate. The best CPM for telegram ads is the lowest bid that still gets views in the channels you chose, and you only learn it from the statistics. There is no telegram ads price per month either, because spend is per view, not a subscription.
There is no telegram ads cpc option. The statistics tab shows views, plus how many people joined your channel or started your bot after seeing the ad. It does not report clicks or a click-through rate. What the ad did to the channel itself shows up in the admin panel instead, and the guide to reading a channel's built-in statistics explains its sources graph.
Is there a telegram ads minimum budget or telegram ads minimum deposit?
Not on any page Telegram publishes. The getting-started guide, the platform terms and Fragment's help page all describe adding funds, and none names a minimum. Figures such as a 20-coin first deposit come from user reports and vendor blogs. Higher euro minimums belong to agency-run accounts, each set by whoever sells the account. The numbers conflict because they describe different accounts.
One budget rule is official and catches people out. You can raise an ad's budget at any time, but you cannot lower it once the ad is submitted. To spend less, stop and delete the ad. The remaining funds return to your balance, and you create a similar ad with the smaller budget.
Which telegram ads account should you advertise from?
Logging in takes a Telegram account's phone number and a confirmation inside Telegram, sent from a verified service account. The guide describes no other telegram ads verification step. From there you work either from a personal account or from an organization built around a channel or group you own. Only the owner of that chat can create the organization, and all its admins can then manage the ads, which matters if the channel later changes hands through a channel ownership transfer. One login can stay signed in to several organizations at once. Teams that already run more than one Telegram account usually keep the ad login on the account that owns the brand channel.
How to buy telegram ads comes down to Fragment. Choosing Add Funds may send you there, where you connect a TON wallet and enter the amount in the coin. Those are the only telegram ads payment methods listed for the self-serve account; no card or euro option appears. Fragment also notes that users from certain countries may be restricted from buying ads, which is why searches like how to run telegram ads in nigeria or telegram ads uzbekistan keep coming up. Whether your country is affected shows only when you try, so check before you plan a campaign around it.
The comparison below separates the official accounts from the two routes people confuse with them.
| Route | Who places the ad | Billing | Where it shows | Link rules |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Self-serve personal account | Telegram | Coin via Fragment, CPM from 0.1 | Channels 1,000+, bots, search, video | Telegram channel or bot only |
| Self-serve organization | Telegram | Same as personal | Same as personal | Same as personal; any admin of the owned chat can manage |
| Agency or reseller account | Telegram, set up through the seller | Seller's terms, often euros | Same surfaces | Seller-reported; not in Telegram's public docs |
| Paid post bought from an admin | The channel admin | Private deal | That one channel's feed | Whatever the admin accepts |
| Outreach from your own accounts | You | Your accounts and tools | DMs and groups you can reach | Telegram's spam rules apply |
A telegram ads reseller sells access to the same surfaces through its own contract. None of Telegram's public pages document that route or its minimums, so read the seller's terms rather than a blog's summary. Buying reach from channels directly, through shoutouts and agencies, has its own pricing and checks, covered in paying channels for shoutouts and placements. Searching telegram ads com or telegram ads org returns agencies and analytics sites as well. The official telegram advertising platform lives only at ads.telegram.org and promote.telegram.org. Third-party networks that call themselves a telegram ad network sell placements inside bots and mini apps on their own terms, and they are not the official telegram ads network.
How do you run ads on Telegram, step by step?
Here is how to place ads on Telegram, following Telegram's own guide. It doubles as a short telegram ads tutorial for a first campaign.
Telegram ads setup: create the ad
Open ads.telegram.org and log in. The dashboard is the telegram ads manager: pick the personal account or an organization, and click Create a new ad. Fill in the title, the text and the URL. Before you submit, Preview Ad shows the message as a reader would see it inside a channel.
Telegram ads targeting, CPM and budget
Enter a CPM of 0.1 or more and a budget. Then choose where the ad shows. The simplest option is a list of specific channels, entered by link, such as t.me/examplechannel. Finding channels worth targeting is the same work as searching Telegram for public groups and channels by topic. The privacy policy lists the other ways ads can be matched: the topic of a channel, search terms, the language of the content, the channels a reader follows, and a country or city approximated from the phone number's code or the IP address. Private chats and contact lists are not mined to choose ads, so nothing you do when you remove contacts from your Telegram account changes which ads you see.
Targeting cannot be edited after the ad is created. To change it, use Create a similar ad, which copies the text into a new ad with fresh targeting.
Fund, submit and activate
Tick the box confirming the terms and ad guidelines, then click Create Ad. With no funds yet, a "Your balance is too low" message appears and the ad is saved as a draft. Once submitted, the ad moves through five statuses: Stopped, In Review, Declined, Active and On Hold. The practical answer to how to activate telegram ads is a funded ad that has passed review. Active is the status that means the telegram ads campaign is live.
How long does review take, and why are Telegram ads declined?
Telegram states no telegram ads approval time. The guide says only that its team is checking the ad content before it can be displayed. Advertisers report anything from about a day to more than two weeks, and one channel's poll of its readers found a long tail past 14 days. That is an observation from one audience, not a service level. Most of what gets called a telegram ads in review problem is simply that wait. Editing the ad does not speed it up, because changed text goes back through the same check.
A declined ad, or one marked as telegram ads not approved, shows a detailed explanation when you open it, with a link to the guideline it broke. The decline advertisers ask about most mentions the destination, in words about destination quality. The written rules behind it are shorter: destinations must be functional, technically complete and active, must match the ad text, and must not exist only to redirect people elsewhere. A brand-new channel with three posts can fail that test. So can a channel cleared shortly before launch, even though tools to delete all messages on Telegram make that a two-minute job. The usual telegram ads declined problem solution is to fix the destination, not the text. Before you resubmit, check four things. Is the channel public and active? Does it carry recent original posts? Does it match what the ad promises? Is it more than a pointer to another link?
The Telegram Ads guidelines also define telegram ads prohibited content: sexual content, hate, deceptive claims, political and religious promotion, gambling, risky financial products, drugs, alcohol and tobacco, weapons, and spam or malware. An ad in any of those categories stays declined however often it is rewritten, and no telegram ads review problem fix changes that.
Can you earn from ads on your own Telegram channel?
Yes, though not by selling the slots yourself. In its 2024 post on channel monetization, Telegram announced that owners of public channels with at least 1,000 subscribers receive 50% of the revenue from ads shown there. The revenue documentation extends the same share to bot owners. Withdrawals go through Fragment. You do not choose the advertisers, and the content-creator terms say the share can change, or be unavailable in some regions, at Telegram's discretion.
So the question of how to run ads on my telegram channel, or how to put ads on telegram channel feeds, has two answers. Sponsored messages appear on their own once the channel qualifies. Selling a post to a brand is a separate private arrangement with no platform in between, and that second route is how most owners actually work out how to sell ads on Telegram. Ad-driven subscribers also behave differently from organic ones. They join on a single message, and Telegram makes it as easy to leave many chats at once as it is to join them.
When is the official ads platform the wrong tool?
The platform is built to send readers to a channel or a bot. It cannot reach a group chat or a private inbox, it cannot link to your website, and its statistics stop at views and joins. If the goal is how to generate leads on telegram, the ad usually feeds a bot or a channel, and a lead becomes a conversation only when someone writes back. At this point advertisers start using their own accounts: adding someone on Telegram by username or number, answering replies, following up.
Doing that from one account is ordinary use. Doing it from many accounts is a different activity with different rules, and the software built for it covers jobs the ad platform never touches. It keeps a pool of logged-in account sessions in one place, runs a shared inbox that collects DMs from every account, and handles group posting. It can also add members to a group in bulk, which paid ads cannot do, within add limits that keep it slow. The overview of what Telegram software tools automate lists the jobs one by one. Each of those tools logs in through your own api_id and api_hash, a user-session login with nothing to do with the ad platform. The API pages for sponsored messages only tell apps how to display ads and describe no public API for advertisers, so a tool sold as a telegram ads assistant or a telegram ads mcp is a third-party wrapper.
The honest limit cuts the other way too. Telegram's Terms of Service forbid spam, and outreach that Telegram reads as unsolicited gets accounts restricted whatever tool sends it. New accounts need a slow warmup period before any outreach. When something goes wrong, the first stop is a SpamBot check to see whether the account is restricted. A sponsored message carries none of that risk, because Telegram delivers it. We would put the trade this way: the ad platform is narrow and costs money per view, while outreach reaches further and puts your accounts on the line.
