Most telegram statistics pages that answer "how many users does Telegram have" mix three kinds of number without saying which is which: figures Telegram announced, figures a reporter read in financial documents, and figures an app-intelligence firm modelled. They are not interchangeable. This guide keeps them apart, the way we keep a session that is limited apart from one that is dead.
If you only need the short version: one company-published user count, a handful of revenue lines, zero official country splits.
What Telegram has actually published about its users
Monthly active users, milestone by milestone
Telegram's own announcements give a clean, dated series of monthly active users (MAU), and nothing finer. The official blog post launching Premium, dated 19 June 2022, says the app had passed 700 million monthly active users. Durov's channel then carried the later steps: 900 million "in the spring" of 2024, and on 22 July 2024 950 million monthly active users. The billion mark arrived in a post dated 19 March 2025 that reads "significantly over 1 billion". Since then his posts say "a billion+" or "over a billion users" without a sharper number. So the honest answer to how many users are on Telegram, as of October 2026, is: more than one billion monthly actives, by the company's own count, last stated as a milestone in March 2025. Ask how many users use Telegram on a given day and there is no official answer at all. A monthly active user is an account, not a person. One operator running forty sessions in a desktop session manager for many accounts counts forty times.
Premium subscribers and engagement
Premium is the second series Telegram discloses, and it moves faster than the user count. Durov announced 10 million paid subscribers in 2024, and on 23 December 2024 wrote that the number had tripled during the year to more than 12 million. A 15 million figure circulates in 2025 coverage; we could not trace it to a primary post, so it stays out of this guide. The March 2025 post adds two engagement figures that most telegram usage statistics pages repeat without attribution: users open the app about 21 times a day and spend about 41 minutes in it daily. Both are averages Telegram computed and published. Nobody outside the company can check them, and no method was given. Treat them as the company's claim, which is what they are, and notice that "opens per day" is the kind of metric a single bot account like a PostBot code sender inflates as easily as a person does.
How many users does Telegram have by country?
Nobody outside Telegram knows. The company has never published telegram users by country, telegram active users by country or a country-level revenue split, and nothing in its blog, its FAQ or Durov's channel gives one. Every telegram users by country list you will find, whether it is sold as telegram users by country 2024, telegram users by country 2025 or telegram users by country 2026, is a model built by someone else, and the year in the headline usually marks when the page was refreshed, not when anything was measured. Tables titled top telegram users by country, or headlines about which nation has the telegram most users by country, rest on the same outside data.
That does not make the estimates useless. It makes them estimates. The table below is the most defensible set we found, each row labelled with what it counts and who counted it. It is deliberately short.
| Country | What the figure counts | Figure as published | Source (third-party estimate) |
|---|---|---|---|
| India | Cumulative app downloads | about 104 million | BankMyCell compilation, 2025 |
| Russia | Cumulative app downloads | about 34.4 million | BankMyCell compilation, 2025 |
| Indonesia | Cumulative app downloads | about 27.2 million | BankMyCell compilation, 2025 |
| India | Share of survey respondents who use Telegram | 45% | Statista consumer survey, as reproduced in 2025 roundups |
| United States | Share of survey respondents who use Telegram | 9% | Statista consumer survey, as reproduced in 2025 roundups |
| United States, Brazil, Egypt | Next places in the download ranking | no figure we could verify | BankMyCell compilation, 2025 |
Read that table as an observed ranking of installs and survey answers. It is not a census.
Why country splits disagree between sources
Telegram user statistics by country disagree because each source measures a different thing and none of them sees Telegram's servers. Download trackers count first installs from app stores, so a phone that installed Telegram in 2019 and never opened it again still counts, while a desktop or web client, or an APK installed outside the store, never shows up. Survey firms count the share of respondents who say they use the app, which depends on how the sample was drawn and how the question was worded. Traffic panels estimate visits to web pages, which barely touches a mobile messenger. Then there is attribution itself: a phone number's country code is not where its owner lives, which is why how a phone number check actually works tells you whether a number is registered, not where its owner sits, and why tracing which account sits behind a phone number depends on their privacy settings rather than their location. A VPN moves the apparent country again. This is why one roundup's telegram users statistics by country can put a market tens of millions above another's, and both can be honest about their method.
The same caution applies to telegram market share and telegram market share by country. Durov's March 2025 post calls Telegram the second most popular messaging app in the world, excluding the Chinese market, which is a company claim about global rank. Country-level share figures come from the same download and survey panels as above. So the question of the telegram biggest market has a fair answer only in those terms: by downloads, India leads every public estimate we read. By share of the population, the ranking changes depending on the survey.
Telegram demographics and audience: what anyone can measure
No age, gender or occupation data comes from Telegram itself, so telegram demographics and telegram user demographics in public roundups come from consumer surveys in a few countries, extrapolated. The more useful layer is the one you can actually observe. A channel admin sees their own subscribers' growth, views and shares in Telegram's built-in channel statistics once the channel is large enough for Telegram to show them. A group admin sees who posts. That is the real telegram audience for any operator: a set of specific chats, not a global average. Nothing global is in that view.
For audience research, the observable unit is the chat. A list of the users who actually comment and post in a public group says more about telegram audience by country for your niche than any global table, because it reflects who is present now. Each member resolves to a numeric account, and the user ID and chat ID are what tie a record to one account rather than a display name. Scraped member lists are personal data, though: messaging those people is direct marketing under GDPR, CAN-SPAM and their equivalents, and you need a lawful basis that no software provides. Building your own audience from scratch works the other way round, starting with spinning up channels and groups by the dozen and growing each one in public.
Is there a Telegram company market cap?
No. The company is privately held, so there is no telegram company market cap, no share price and no obligation to publish audited results. What is public comes from two places. Durov's own posts say 2024 revenue passed $1 billion with more than $500 million in cash reserves at year end (23 December 2024), and that 2024 closed with $547 million in profit (19 March 2025). The second source is debt. The company has raised money through bonds, and in 2025 Bloomberg reported a $1.7 billion convertible issue at a 9% yield, convertible into shares at a discount if the company lists. In January 2026 the Financial Times, reading unaudited statements shared with bondholders, reported first-half 2025 revenue of about $870 million and a net loss driven by a write-down on Toncoin holdings. Those are reported figures, not filings. The $30 billion valuation that appears in older coverage was an investment offer Durov said he turned down in 2021; it was never a market price. Until Telegram lists, every number above is the founder's statement or a journalist's reading of documents we cannot see.
Where every Telegram statistic stops being useful
A platform statistic tells you how big the pond is. It says nothing about what one account can do in it. The limits that bind an operator are per account and per chat, they live on Telegram's servers, and Telegram does not publish them: how fast a fresh session can join chats, which a guide to auto-join limits for a join-group bot treats as observed rather than documented, or how a new account behaves before it has history, which is what a warmup bot for new accounts builds over time.
Telegram Solutions is a desktop tool for running your own accounts. It does not see platform-wide data, so it cannot tell you how many people use Telegram in any country, and it does not raise any limit Telegram applies. It works with the accounts you load. In practice that means checking which sessions are still alive before a run, converting session files to TDATA when a desktop client needs them, and adding contacts from a file automatically from a list you are entitled to use. It also covers activity across the pool, from simulated everyday activity to paced posting into groups and checking whether a username is free. None of it is a statistic about Telegram, and none of it changes what Telegram's Terms of Service allow.
Short version for anyone citing statistics telegram figures in a deck: quote the company's number with its date, label every country figure as a third-party estimate and name the firm, and never present downloads as users.
